Over the past decade, Jeju Island has received three different UNESCO certifications namely, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2002, UNESCO World Natural Heritage in 2007, UNESCO Geoparks in 2010 and most recently awarded a New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2011.
